Diana Bronze Sculpture by ‘R Tion & Sauvage circa 1850-1900

The Diana of Gabii is a statue of a woman draped probably representing the goddess Artemis, which was attached to the sculpture Praxiteles. The statue was discovered in 1792 by Gavin Hamilton on the property of Prince Borghese Gabii, near Rome. This is an extremely rare smaller scale representation of the large original. The original has been on display in the Louvre since 1820! Rare opportunity to own an exquisite investment grade work of art for your home and enjoyment. The overall height of the solid bronze on base is 18 ½” with the base being 6” x 6”. The bronze itself is an impressive 14” tall and it is solid bronze with a lovely patina worthy of well over 100 years of the aging process. The base is signed front and back (see photos).
